About
Open Door
--
a division of IndyGo’s Flexible Services
Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation, or IndyGo, provides a valuable service to citizens of Marion County. Its Fixed Route and Flexible Services operate in every township of Marion County (excluding the City of Lawrence where limited Closed Door service is provided). Open Door, IndyGo’s reservation-based paratransit service, serves the needs of customers who, because of a disability, are unable to use IndyGo’s regular fixed route system and who meet the criteria established by the U.S. Department of Transportation under the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990.
Download the IndyGo Open Door Rider Guidelines. Access the Open Door Rider Guidelines on Indiana Reading and Information Services (IRIS).
How to apply Customers who wish to submit an application for Open Door service may download the applicable form below, based on the applicant's specific disability. For general disabilities, please be sure to download both the application and professional verification form. If you have any questions regarding these forms, please contact IndyGo's Open Door Assessment Center at 614-9260 or email assessments@indygo.net. Open Door Application and Professional Verification Forms:
Note: The Open Door application and verification forms are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. Click on the Get Adobe Reader icon below to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you are unable to open a PDF file or your software program is unable to translate PDF files, please call the Customer Service Center at (317) 635.3344 and they can mail you a paper copy or e-mail an electronic Microsoft Word file. Currently, the eligibility period for an Open Door customer is a maximum three (3) years. When this period ends, customers must undergo the assessment process for eligibility certification again. Effective March 1, 2010, the eligibility period increases from three (3) years to a maximum of five (5) years. For customers whose disability we determine will never change, the new process eliminates the requirement for subsequent functional assessments. Instead the client would simply complete an application form to request continuation of their Open Door service. This application could be submitted by mail prior to the end of the certification period. IndyGo Taxi Voucher Program In order to meet the growing demand of public transportation for the disabled community of Indianapolis, IndyGo is introducing a Taxi Voucher Program starting Tuesday, July 1, 2008. IndyGo joins many cities across the United States who have started similar taxi voucher programs to assist in the daily demand of transporting the public. Open Door Paratransit riders will be eligible to purchase 10 vouchers per month at the cost of $3.50, the same price as a single ride on Open Door. When you are ready to use your taxi voucher, you will call a taxi company who will pick you up and transport you to your destination within Marion County. IndyGo cannot refer clients to a particular taxi company. Please download the following forms to learn more and order vouchers!

About the Mobility Advisory Committee (MAC) The Mobility Advisory Committee (MAC) is comprised of nine volunteers who meet quarterly in an advisory capacity to IndyGo. This committee advises IPTC on the provision of public transportation services for individuals with disabilities and provides education to the general public about these transportation needs. New bylaws for the committee were approved at the IPTC board meeting on January 28, 2010. New appointees to the recently restructured MAC were approved by the IPTC board on March 25, 2010. The new group offers a diverse representation of individuals with disabilities throughout the IPTC service area — along with groups who serve them. Meetings are held in the IndyGo Boardroom, 1501 W. Washington Street. This meeting location is accessible through Open Door and Local Service Route 8, which — like all IndyGo vehicles — is ADA-compliant. All meetings are open to the public. |
