Indianapolis is a great place to be this July 4th! There a plenty of family friendly events happening around the city that are a simple bus ride away. There’s also going to be some service impacts and detours that we want you to know about, we’ll get to those in just a minute. First, here’s a few cool events that we think you will have a blast at this holiday:

fsmf-logoIndyGo is a sponsor of the Fountain Square Music Festival, a collaboration of shows at local venues on the near southeast side of downtown.  The festival leads up to the main event on July 4th, where an all-ages, outdoor event takes place on Shelby St. Featuring more than 15 local artists. This festival is sure to be a great time! Learn more.

Parking is limited in Fountain Square, so take IndyGo routes 12 or 14 to get to the festival this year, expect some delays as traffic in Fountain Square will be moving very slow.

After you’ve listened to some great bands at the Fountain Square Music Festival, find yourself walking or riding a Pacers Bikeshare up the Indy Cultural Trail to the 800 block of Mass Ave for the Fourth of July Picnic on Mass Ave. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. as crowds gather to enjoy Indiana’s famous JUGS Fried Chicken and Biscuits. Family friendly strolling magicians, musicians, street performers, face painters and artists will entertain people of all ages.

Ticket price includes a reserved seat at the table for all members of the family and an all you can eat buffet. IndyGo routes 17 and 10 will get you within walking distance of the picnic (though routes 17 and 55 will be on a detour to avoid the 800 block of Mass Ave.! Learn more.

From here you can ether stay on Mass Ave or find yourself walking towards the center of downtown for the Donato’s Downtown Freedom Blast.

The fireworks will start at 10 p.m. and should conclude slightly before 11 p.m. – just enough time for you to get back on the bus and head home! That’s right, we will have service extended for one last trip out of downtown at 11 p.m. to get you home. If you’re catching the bus home be sure to meet it at one of these two locations: Ohio and Capitol or Capitol and Market. Note: Ohio and Meridian Stops will be closed.

A few other items to note: All buses will be running on a Sunday schedule. The downtown loop stops will also be closed from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. for the Firecracker 6 race. All buses that go downtown during this time will detour and will make transfers on the southbound side of Indiana Ave. between New York and Senate, south of Vermont. Reroutes due to street closures and the extra trip at 11 p.m. won’t be reflected in trip plans on Google Maps or on IndyGo’s Quick Trip Planner. In the event the Freedom Blast is rained out, IndyGo will still operate the additional 11 p.m. trips.

IndyGo’s Customer Service Call and Retail Centers along with the Administrative Office will be closed. Please visit IndyGo.net or call Customer Service before July 4 at 317.635.3344 to find out if your trips will be impacted.
