IndyGo launches Carmel express route
If you are looking for an easier way to commute between the Carmel area and Indianapolis, try the new IndyGo Commuter Express (ICE). The first ICE route from Carmel to downtown will launch on Monday, March 17 from the Meijer Store on Carmel Drive near US 31. The first bus departs at 6:15 a.m.
“While traffic delays and high transportation costs make your daily commute unbearable, we encourage you to ride the bus and let us navigate the roads for you,” said Gilbert Holmes, IndyGo President and CEO. “This new service is a part of our larger commitment to enhance our services system-wide.”
The Carmel express service is funded for three years by a $1.8 million Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) federal grant, which provides 80 percent of the funding with a 20 percent local match provided by the City of Carmel.
“This is an opportunity to provide our residents transportation alternatives for commuting to work while reducing the impact on our environment,” said Jim Brainard, Mayor for the City of Carmel. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with IndyGo in the new commuter service.”
