IndyGo Vying for Pepsi Refresh Grant to Support Job Access Fare Pass Donation Program
Indianapolis – Tuesday, May 4, 2010 - The Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation (IndyGo) recently applied for a $50,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant to implement a fare pass donation program for organizations serving people with job access transportation needs.
Through this new program, Pepsi Co. is awarding up to $1.3 million each month to the top 32 ideas that receive the most number of votes nationwide. The top ten ideas win in the $5,000, $25,000 and $50,000 categories. Two ideas in the $250,000 category will win the grant money.
If IndyGo earns enough votes to win this grant, 100% of the $50,000 grant will be allocated to fare passes that will be donated to local organizations providing job placement services. This means that Indianapolis residents who need transportation services in order to look for and maintain employment will receive free bus fare through this program—until the grant money is spent.
IndyGo’s program idea became available for votes at 6 am on Saturday, May 1, and voting for this round of grants will continue through Monday, May 31. IndyGo’s Fare Pass Donation Program is the only Indianapolis idea in the Neighborhood category that is in the running for a $50,000 grant.
All legal residents of the United States residing in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are 13 years of age and older are eligible to vote in this program. Individuals can vote for up to 10 of their favorite ideas every day. Unused votes for an individual do not roll over to the next day.

Finalists will be announced on June 1. If IndyGo receives this grant, information on how to apply for a fare pass donation will be announced. Funds would be available for program implementation by August.
