500 Festival Mini-Marathon to Impact IndyGo’s Weekend Service
Indianapolis Thursday, May 6, 2010 - IndyGo advises passengers to be prepared for bus detours and delays on the evening of Friday, May 7, and all day Saturday, May 8, for activity related to the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Street closures and other access restrictions on the evening prior to the event and on race day will affect bus service in the greater downtown area.
The 13.1-mile Mini-Marathon course stretches from downtown Indianapolis to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and back. Participants start on Washington St and take White River Pkwy W. Drive to Michigan St out of downtown, to Holt Rd, to 10th St and to Main St in Speedway. Turning on 16th St, participants will enter IMS at Gate 2 and complete one full 2.5-mile lap around the track. Exiting the track, participants will proceed south on Cagle St to 16th St, to Olin, back to 10th St. There they return to White River Pkwy W Drive to New York St for the Victory Mile and finish just east of Blackford St on New York St.
The 500 Festival Mini-Marathon attracts 35,000 registrants and an additional 4,000 participants in the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K. Approximately 90,000 people participants and their family and friends will gather downtown in and around Military Park for this event. The Indianapolis Mini-Marathon is the largest half-marathon in the US.
Detours re: Friday Setup Beginning at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 7, New York St. will be blocked until after the race on Saturday. This means that IndyGo Route 3 (inbound), Route 37 (inbound) and Route 50 Red Line will be detoured.
Route 3 eastbound will use regular route on Michigan St. to White River Pkwy. (turn right, south) to Washington St. (turn left, east) to West St. (turn left, north) to Ohio St. (turn right, east) to regular eastbound route.
Route 37 inbound will use regular route on White River Pkwy. to Michigan St. and will continue south on White River Pkwy. to Washington St. (turn left, east) to West St. (left, north) to New York St. (turn right, east) to regular route.
Route 50- Red Line (IUPUI), from the University Hotel, will use regular route on North St. to University Blvd. (turn right, north) to Indiana Ave. (turn right, southeast) to West St. (turn right, south) to New York St. (turn left, east) to Alabama St. (turn right, south) to Ohio St. (turn right, west) to Senate Ave. (turn right, north) to Michigan St. (turn left, west) to regular route.
If West St. is also blocked, all IndyGo coaches will take Senate to New York St. to Capitol Ave. to Ohio St.
Race Day Stop Closures The following IndyGo Stops will be closed for the Mini Marathon: Capitol Ave & Market St Maryland St & Pennsylvania St Delaware St & Washington St Washington St & Delaware St Delaware St & Market St New York St (east of White River) Capitol Ave (south of New York) West St (north and south of South St) Rt 3 (all stops east of Gasoline Alley) Rt 8 (all stops east and west of Harding St)
