IUPUI Students Head Back to Campus with IndyGo S-Pass
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 28, 2010) — Thanks to the IndyGo and IUPUI S-Pass program, now rolling into its third school year, 2010-2011 IUPUI students can once again take advantage of unlimited bus rides throughout Indianapolis on any of IndyGo’s 29 fixed bus routes.
Starting August 1, approximately 20,000 IUPUI students will receive their purchased campus parking permit and an IndyGo S-Pass in the mail. While the S-Pass is funded through a portion of the IUPUI student general fee, it ends up being a tremendous value for students who take advantage of the program. Students who do not receive an S-Pass in the mail can pick one up at the IUPUI Campus Center JagTag office or Campus Parking Services.
“We’ve been working with IUPUI on this initiative since 2007, and I am proud to say that more than 694,000 rides can be attributed to the S-Pass,” said Michael Terry, IndyGo president and CEO. “Not only does the S-Pass get these students to school, work and other destinations without having to repeatedly fill their gas tanks or put wear and tear on their cars, it also prepares them for more sustainable commuting options in the future.”
According to Carol Pferrer, director of parking and transportation, IUPUI is once again excited about working with IndyGo and offering this transportation perk to its students. “The S-Pass program helps us alleviate some of the parking demand on campus,” she noted. “Plus, by riding the bus, students can reduce their daily transportation costs as well as do something good for the environment.”
Without the S-Pass, a full-fare monthly IndyGo bus pass costs $60; regular fare for a single ride is $1.75. The 2010-2011 S-Pass is valid through August 15, 2011. It cannot be used on IndyGo’s Commuter Express routes (ICE), Green Line Downtown/Airport Express or any Flexible Services, including Open Door.
IUPUI students can access campus directly via IndyGo routes 3, 10, 37 or the Red Line Downtown /IUPUI Circulator. Students must show a valid IUPUI/JagTag ID with every S-Pass use. Additionally, all IndyGo buses are equipped with bicycle racks so students can ride their bike to one of IndyGo’s 4,000 bus stops or gain easier access to Indianapolis amentities such as The Monon, The Cultural Trail, The Canal Walk, White River State Park and much more.
