More on Google Maps and the IndyGo Trip Planner

Personalized trip plans contain estimations based on timepoints in the IndyGo schedule data, and each method of choosing what time to be at your stop will give you slightly different times. Other variables like traffic, construction, road conditions, weather, and ridership will affect real-time arrivals, so it’s always best to give yourself plenty of time and plan ahead.

While the buses are equipped with GPS, real-time data is currently only available for IndyGo dispatchers and operations management. IndyGo has not yet developed applications for the public to view real-time vehicle locations and arrivals, but in the future, you can look forward to IndyGo offering GPS data to the public through different avenues. Special funding may become available in the future for IndyGo to develop applications for riders to see real-time bus information.

IndyGo is committed to improving communications with customers. Currently, you can get updates on the web for IndyGo services on our Twitter page, Detour and service alerts page, email newsletter, and Facebook. Our customer service representatives are available for additional information at 317.635.3344.

Google Maps

In late October 2011, IndyGo schedule data became available on Google Maps through the Google Transit Partner Program. IndyGo provides schedule data in GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) format, and Google does the rest. Android phones, iPhones and other some other smartphones have Google Maps integrated, so that means you’ll have seamless access to IndyGo schedule information. But Google Maps isn’t just for smartphones; you can use the application on your computer as well.

IndyGo information on Google Maps does not reflect real-time arrivals for transit in Indianapolis. The times given are estimations based on IndyGo scheduled timepoints and do not take traffic, weather, detours or other service interruptions into account. In the future, you can look forward to IndyGo offering GPS data to the public through different avenues. For more information, speak with one of our customer service representatives at 317.635.3344.

Developers can download IndyGo GTFS files from our Developers page for use in third party applications. Files will be updated occasionally, so check out the Developers page for details.

IndyGo Online Trip Planner

Learn about IndyGo’s own trip planner, or try it out!
This trip planner uses more stringent criteria than Google Maps does. Default “walking distance” for the IndyGo Trip Planner is defined as ¾ of a mile, so for trips originating or terminating more than ¾ of a mile from an IndyGo bus stop, the IndyGo Trip Planner will not return any results.

Customer Service

Our customer service reps are available to help plan a trip, provide schedule info and give details on detours and reroutes due to street closures and construction.
