INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation (IndyGo) will offer free rides on all routes from Sunday, June 26 through Monday, July 4 to help riders adjust to the Julia M. Transit Center opening and route changes.
“Service changes across the city go into effect on Sunday, June 26 to coincide with the opening of the Transit Center. Offering free rides for the first week of these changes is a great way to help regular riders adjust and encourages new users to hop on and try out transit,” stated IndyGo President and CEO, Mike Terry.
The Transit Center is located on the corner of Washington St. and Delaware St. across from the City County Building plaza, offering a new central transfer point for most IndyGo routes driving through downtown Indianapolis. Amenities at the Transit Center include 19 covered bus bays with Real Time bus information, public restrooms, indoor waiting area, customer service, pass sales, and free Wifi internet.
System wide routing and schedule changes will impact all 31 bus routes when the Transit Center opens. IndyGo has created a June route changes webpage to help riders navigate how the Transit Center opening and route changes will impact their commute. New route schedules are available online now, and printed materials will be available mid-June. Transit Ambassador volunteers will assist riders in understanding how changes to IndyGo routes will impact commutes. The Ambassadors will primarily engage riders near major downtown stops over the next several weeks.
The trip planner at IndyGo.net will help riders plan their route. IndyGo Customer Service is available by phone at 317.635.3344 Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
