Red Line – Temporary Closures on College, Meridian and Capitol
INDIANAPOLIS: As Red Line construction progresses, drivers should expect temporary traffic pattern changes on Capitol Avenue, College Avenue, and Meridian Street during the next few weeks. Short-term lane restrictions at localized work areas are required to facilitate station work.
Capitol Avenue
Beginning on or after April 15, Red Line crews will work on segments of Capitol Ave to enable construction of bus pads. Each station area and its adjacent intersection will be reduced to a single lane to accommodate this work.
Temporary lane restrictions on or after April 22, crews will work south on the northbound lane and north on the southbound lane to set station structures. A single lane will always remain open. This segment will be closed for up to three hours during non-peak hours.
College Ave
In the upcoming weeks, crews will begin construction along the college Avenue station areas. Traffic will be shifted to the outside curb lanes to work on center stations. Turning lanes will be restricted at the following streets until completion.
Kessler Avenue – April 17
54th Street – April 22
52nd Street – April 29
46th Street – April 29
42nd Street – April 24
Beginning on or after April 19, one northbound lane of College Ave will be closed for up to three hours to set station structure at 66th Street.
Meridian Street
Night work will begin on or after April 22 at the 18th Street intersection and will proceed North to 38th Street. Overnight closures of each station area and adjacent intersection are necessary for construction of bus pads. Intersections will be open from 7a to 9p.
Re-paving will take place on the short segments of the future Red Line bus lanes on Washington Street, Delaware, and Maryland starting the week of April 15.
Drivers should heed all signs and flaggers to safeguard workers, drivers, and pedestrians along the construction route.
