Improving the Environment by Reducing Emissions
Since 2015, IndyGo’s efforts to put hybrid and electric buses into service have already resulted in significant energy savings and environmental impacts for the agency and our community.
- 778 metric tons of CO2 emissions reduced with battery electric buses (BEB) added to our fleet
- 1 Megawatt solar production on the roof of 1501 W. Washington St. that supports battery electric charging

Creating Sustainable Communities
Sustainability is a way to make our communities more livable by integrating and balancing economic, social and environmental needs. For example, IndyGo ensures that all fixed route buses are equipped with bike racks on the front of the bus and all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses have space for bicycles inside the bus. When IndyGo supports bike integration it is encouraging public health, expanding the reach of transit and providing affordable mobility for underserved transit customers.
IndyGo’s nearly 7 million riders take cars off the road and reduce the need for parking lots, which can enable better land use, such as higher density housing, more green space and walkable neighborhoods.
