INDIANAPOLIS – IndyGo will partially close Washington Street at College Avenue starting on or after Thursday, Sept. 11. One eastbound lane will remain open on Washington Street. This will be a four-month closure to construct new storm sewer trunk lines ahead of construction on the Blue Line, the agency’s third Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line. See motorist detour map below for more details.
The Blue Line is IndyGo’s third and will run 24 miles, connecting the Indianapolis International Airport to the Town of Cumberland via downtown Indianapolis along I-70, Holt Road and Washington Street. The line is scheduled to open for service in 2028. Once complete, it will offer faster, safer and more reliable service.
Riders will benefit from level boarding, off-board fare collection through MyKey, real-time arrival signage, frequent service and covered stations for weather protection. Beyond transit, the project also brings major infrastructure upgrades to the Washington Street corridor, including new traffic signals, improved sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and ADA-compliant curb ramps, making the corridor safer and more accessible for all.
IndyGo is committed to supporting residents, businesses and neighborhoods along the corridor during construction through resources like our community toolkit, construction liaison and weekly virtual office hours. You can access these tools and receive the latest updates on the anticipated construction schedule, planned detours and other key details directly in your inbox by signing up for the Blue Line newsletter on our website here.
