Updated October 2025-
INDIANAPOLIS — On Sunday, Oct. 12, IndyGo will implement schedule adjustments to improve on-time performance and alignment changes to respond to infrastructure projects. The most significant change will be lifting the long-term Route 8 detour at the Little Eagle Creek bridge and implementing a Blue Line-related, long-term westbound detour for Route 8 between Belmont Avenue and Harding Street.
Schedule Changes:
Routes 8, 10, 21, 26, 90 (Red Line) and 92 (Purple Line) will undergo minor timing adjustments to improve schedule adherence and accommodate the new infrastructure.
For Route 8, a new early Saturday morning trip is being added from the Julia M. Carson Transit Center (CTC) to the Indianapolis International Airport. Additionally, Route 8 will have a new daily schedule that accounts for the removal of the bridge detour and the start of the westbound Blue Line detour. On Saturdays, Route 26 will operate every 30 minutes, improved from its previous 75-minute frequency.
Alignment Changes:
For the last several years, Route 8 has been detoured between Tibbs Avenue and Holt Road due to the City of Indianapolis’ reconstruction of the Little Eagle Creek bridge. This project should be completed in fall 2025, which will allow the long-term detour to end.
In November 2025, a six-month closure of westbound Washington Street between Belmont Avenue and Harding Street will be implemented to facilitate Blue Line construction. Due to the length of the closure, Route 8 westbound trips are officially being changed to use White River Parkway, Michigan Street and Belmont Avenue. Temporary westbound bus stops will be placed at White River Parkway and Belmont Avenue to reduce impacts to riders. Eastbound Route 8 trips will remain on Washington Street during the construction.
