August 5, 2025
Good afternoon, Team-
Last week, I shared that our Chief Operations Officer Aaron Vogel will be leaving IndyGo at the end of August after six years of dedicated service. He is returning to California to serve as the COO for AC Transit in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. While we will miss his leadership, I know we’ll continue to benefit from his support and friendship, even as he and his family embark on this new adventure.
As promised, I want to keep you informed as I work with our Board to fill this critical position. The first step in that process is appointing an interim leader. I’m pleased to share that Annette Darrow will serve as Interim COO following Aaron’s departure.
For those who may not know Annette well, she brings a deep background in transit operations and strong customer focus to this role. Annette has more than 30 years of experience at IndyGo and 33 years total in the transit industry. Since joining IndyGo in 1996, she’s advanced through key positions in several departments and is currently acting as Senior Director of Service Planning. Annette’s leadership has shaped many of IndyGo’s most transformative projects, from securing over $100 million in grant funding to deploying new technologies and leading four Comprehensive Operational Analyses (COAs). She helped develop the Julia Carson Transit Center, planned our three Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines, and spearheaded the Marion County Transit Plan. Through it all, she has developed a trusted, collaborative relationship with ATU 1070 members and leaders.
To ensure a smooth transition, Annette and Aaron will begin working together immediately, with support from Deputy COO Cheryl Purefoy and the entire Operations leadership team. I’m grateful for their dedication and leadership as we move through this important change.
Thank you for your support, flexibility and continued dedication. We’ll keep you updated as the next steps take shape.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Pyrz, PE
