IndyGo Foundation Announces 2025-26 Bus Fare Grant Program

INDIANAPOLIS — IndyGo Foundation invites local 501(c)(3) nonprofits to apply for its 2025–26 Bus Fare Grant Program. This competitive grant program awards up to $4,000 in transportation funding to each selected organization.

Applications opened Sept. 15 and close Oct. 31, 2025. Grant recipients will be announced in early 2025, culminating in a celebratory event on Transit Equity Day, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026.

Now in its fifth year, the Bus Fare Grant Program underscores the Foundation’s core message that public transit is essential.

Kenya Anderson, Senior Director of Client Services at IYG said, “The lives we see changed by simply providing bus passes is something that is unfathomable. The life-changing impact of a bus pass is hard for many to understand, until you see it. It is often the first step that creates a domino effect for progress and change.”

Rebecca Seifert, at Roberts Park United Methodist Church, added, “This program is invaluable. Bus passes are literally the lifeline for our Soup’s On guests.”

Last year, the program awarded $378,630 to 119 nonprofits to increase transportation access in Marion County. Since the program’s inception in 2021, the IndyGo Foundation has granted a total of $1,358,603 in fares to remove transportation barriers.

“Because of the generosity of partners like JD Finish Line Foundation and Nicholas H. Noyes Jr. Memorial Foundation, we are proud to open another round of Bus Fare Grants. These grants are more than funding; they are a lifeline. They make it possible for people to connect with jobs, medical care, education and opportunities that can change the course of their lives. Public transit is about more than just getting from one place to another. It’s about opening doors to stability, dignity and hope. Together with our nonprofit partners, we are creating a community where access to opportunity isn’t a privilege but a reality for everyone,” said Emily Meaux, Executive Director of IndyGo Foundation.

In addition to the grant program, the Foundation offers nonprofit organizations a 50% discount on purchasing full-fare bus passes, with applications accepted year-round. IndyGo also provides free and reduced programs for veterans, seniors, students and individuals with disabilities. Together, these resources expand transportation freedom for those who need it most.

These fare-assistance programs are supported by the IndyGo Foundation’s Mobility Access Fund, in partnership with IndyGo.
