INDIANAPOLIS — Beginning on or after Dec. 1, the northern eastbound lane on Maryland Street approaching West Street will be closed as part of ongoing preparations for IndyGo’s Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The change will reduce the eastbound left-turn movement from two lanes to one. This configuration will allow project teams to test the proposed final lane design prior to Blue Line operations.
IndyGo, in partnership with the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW), has installed new traffic-monitoring technologies at this intersection as well as updated signal timings. These systems will collect detailed data on vehicles, pedestrians, and signal timing to make timing adjustments, assess intersection performance under varying traffic conditions, and evaluate how the configuration operates during major events throughout the 2026 event season.
To support safety and traffic flow, a left-turn-only signal will be activated for eastbound Maryland Street to safely manage vehicles and pedestrians as testing continues. IndyGo and DPW will monitor traffic conditions and make adjustments as needed.
