INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 5, 2014) – Due to hazardous road conditions, dangerously low temperatures and the closure of many businesses, at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, IndyGo officials made the call to suspend all non-essential IndyGo services for Monday, Jan. 6.

“The safety of Indianapolis residents is our utmost concern with this cancellation of IndyGo services,” said Mike Terry, IndyGo president and CEO. “The bad road conditions would cause serious delays and detours across the transit system and the extra cold temperatures put waiting passengers at risk.”

The decision to cancel all fixed route and non-essential paratransit bus service comes after Mayor Ballard announced the closing of City-County offices and Governor Mike Pence closed state offices for Monday.

While normal bus service is suspended for Monday, IndyGo will still deliver vital transportation service to kidney dialysis patients who rely on the agency’s Open Door paratransit service for access to these necessary medical appointments.

The IndyGo services cancelled for Monday, Jan. 6 include:

  • Regular fixed route service
  • All Non-Dialysis Trips Reserved on IndyGo’s Open Door Paratransit
  • Customer Service Call Center
  • IndyGo Retail Center
  • Open Door Assessment Office
  • Some Administrative Office Functions

While a cancellation of most of the transit agency’s normal weekday operation includes the agency’s largest division, fixed route bus service, essential operations will continue at the IndyGo headquarters.
