INDIANAPOLIS — IndyGo is a designated recipient of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding for capital improvements (e.g. vehicles) in the Indianapolis Urbanized Area and is responsible for administering the grants and distributing funds.

Below is the 2023 Call for Projects for Sections 5310 and 5339 funds. Both will run from Dec. 15, 2023, to Feb. 9, 2024.

Section 5310 – Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Grant Program

The Section 5310 grant program offers federal funding to support projects that provide transportation to older individuals and those with disabilities. As the designated recipient, IndyGo will host a Call for Projects webinar Friday, Dec. 15, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., to discuss the program and make funding applications available.

Eligible recipients of Section 5310 funding include private, not-for-profit organizations and authorized units of local government within Indiana. To be considered, projects must be derived from the Indianapolis area Coordinated Transportation Plan, which can be viewed here.

Eligible projects are for new “traditional” service(s), mobility management, and vehicles and equipment. New “traditional” service(s) receiving funding will require a 50% local match. The estimated amount available for this Call for Projects is $1.8 million.

Section 5339 – Buses and Bus Facilities Grants Program

The Section 5339 grant program offers federal funding to support public transportation projects. As the designated recipient, IndyGo will host a Call for Projects webinar Friday, Dec. 15, from 1 to 2 p.m., to discuss the program and make funding applications available.

Eligible recipients of Section 5339 funding include units of local government in the Indianapolis urban area providing public transportation and select nonprofit organizations. To be considered, projects must be submitted by an existing IndyGo subrecipient.

Eligible projects include capital projects such as vehicles, radio and communications equipment, wheelchair lifts and rehabilitation and support systems such as computer hardware and software. The estimated amount available for this Call for Projects is $1.2 million.
