INDIANAPOLIS — The first major closure and detours for Blue Line construction will start Monday, July 14. Washington Street will be closed from Koehne Street to White River Parkway for approximately one month. This storm sewer construction will include a full closure on Washington Street at the intersection of Harding and Washington streets. See motorist detour and rider maps below.
The Blue Line is IndyGo’s third Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line and will run 24 miles, connecting the Indianapolis International Airport to the Town of Cumberland via downtown Indianapolis along I-70, Holt Road and Washington Street. The line is scheduled to open for service in 2028. Once complete, it will offer faster, safer and more reliable service.

Motorist Detours
Northbound traffic will detour using Oliver and Belmont avenues and Washington Street. Southbound traffic will use Washington and West streets and Kentucky and Oliver avenues. Southbound trucks will follow Washington Street to West Street, then use I-70 to return to Harding Street.
Eastbound traffic will detour using Belmont Avenue to Michigan Street, then south on White River Parkway. Westbound traffic will detour using White River Parkway to Michigan Street, then south on Belmont Avenue.
Rider Detour
IndyGo’s Route 8 will detour using North White River Parkway, Michigan Street and Belmont Avenue. All bus stops along Washington Street, between North White River Parkway and Belmont Avenue will be closed. Temporary stops will be implemented near the intersection of Washington Street and North White River Parkway and the intersection of Washington Street and Belmont Avenue.
