INDIANAPOLIS – With the certainty of dedicated transit funding, IndyGo now has the confidence to move forward with implementation of the Marion County Transit Plan.

Improvements in the plan include shorter wait times, longer service hours, easier transfers, and rapid transit lines along high ridership corridors. These major increases to service will require additional employees, especially mechanics and transit drivers, to implement the expanded network.

IndyGo expects to fill 90 positions in 2017 alone, with even more demand in 2018 and beyond as implementation of the Transit Plan commences.

To meet this increased need, IndyGo will host the first of several recruiting events at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center during Transit Driver Appreciation Day weekend. At this event, job-seekers will have the opportunity to talk with current IndyGo Operators and staff, apply on-site, complete pre-employment testing, and schedule an interview.

Saturday, March 18
9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

“Transit drivers have extremely important jobs within our city,” stated IndyGo Vice President of Operations, Roscoe Brown. “IndyGo and its riders rely on these employees to provide great service. We look forward to growing our team of ‘front-line’ professionals.”

Transit Driver Appreciation Day was first conceived in 2009 by transit riders in Seattle who wanted to honor the many operators who keep us moving every day. IndyGo celebrates this day each year to show thanks to its hard-working employees. This year’s celebration will take place on Friday, March 17.
